01/18/17 - I am sorry I missed this bit of news last December, but no one in East Orange brought it to my attention, either, and all the local news media has kept it under wraps. Apparently, On December 19th, 2016, our East Orange City Council passed a resolution to make East Orange a Sanctuary City in defiance of Federal Law. That means they, without asking any of the taxpayers for approval by a vote, have adopted FOR US and IN SPITE OF US a policy of not prosecuting undocumented immigrants for violating federal immigration laws in the country in which they are now living illegally. This usually means that East Orange will not use municipal funds or resources to enforce national immigration laws, and usually forbids police or municipal employees to inquire about a person's immigration status.

In this, East Orange conspired with New Jersey Working Families Alliance, a Socialist (they call themselves Progressive) organization that seeks to expand the intrusion of government in our lives by controlling the use of our property taxes (thereby inevitably raising taxes) for such things as raising the minimum wage to $15 (which East Orange has already done with municipal employees), requiring employers to pay earned sick leave, turning our schools into indoctrination centers, forcing climate change taxes on all of us ... the list goes on and on. Now they are working to expand the number of Sanctuary Cities in New Jersey.

Donald Trump has promised to withhold federal funding from Sanctuary Cities. If he convinces the House and Congress to take that action, then the taxpayers of East Orange will see their taxes rise to cover the loss of federal (and possibly state) funding of schools, the library, and any other organization that depends on federal funding for its survival.

Although this news about what the East Orange City Council did behind our backs was announced on The NJ Working Families Facebook Page on December 19, 2016, it was never mentioned on the East Orange City Facebook Page. So much for mayor Taylor's promise of "transparency and accountability".

Lester Taylor's mayoral term of lawlessness, cronyism, corruption and socialism is an attempt to turn the residents of East Orange into socialists who will obey "The Party Line" and allow him to turn the city into a slum that is profitable to him and the other Party members, but ruinous to those of us who oppose him and what he stands for. Walk around the city and observe the litter and broken glass in the streets everywhere. Look at the abandoned and boarded up houses and buildings that are supposed to be rennovated and livable and bringing in property taxes. He's had four years; you would expect he could point to at least one house that has successfully been transformed into a place someone actually wants to buy or rent. Now he wants four more years. If East Orange voters give him another term, they deserve what they get.

If you don't want to pay attention to me, maybe you'll pay attention to Reverend William Owens (01/15/17): “They (The Democratic Party Elites) have destroyed our communities, weakened our families, and doomed us to a future of dependency. What’s more, the Democrats now take our votes for granted and ignore our voices in favor of other interest groups. They ask for everything—support, votes, unquestioning loyalty—and give nothing back. If we want to reclaim our power as voters, then African-Americans need to demonstrate that we won’t allow ourselves to be used.”

UPDATE: 01/25/17

Today President Trump signed the following executive order (shown only in part - for the complete order, go HERE):

Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States

Sec. 9.  Sanctuary Jurisdictions.  It is the policy of the executive branch to ensure, to the fullest extent of the law, that a State, or a political subdivision of a State, shall comply with 8 U.S.C. 1373.
(a)  In furtherance of this policy, the Attorney General and the Secretary, in their discretion and to the extent consistent with law, shall ensure that jurisdictions that willfully refuse to comply with 8 U.S.C. 1373 (sanctuary jurisdictions) are not eligible to receive Federal grants, except as deemed necessary for law enforcement purposes by the Attorney General or the Secretary.  The Secretary has the authority to designate, in his discretion and to the extent consistent with law, a jurisdiction as a sanctuary jurisdiction.  The Attorney General shall take appropriate enforcement action against any entity that violates 8 U.S.C. 1373, or which has in effect a statute, policy, or practice that prevents or hinders the enforcement of Federal law.
(b)  To better inform the public regarding the public safety threats associated with sanctuary jurisdictions, the Secretary shall utilize the Declined Detainer Outcome Report or its equivalent and, on a weekly basis, make public a comprehensive list of criminal actions committed by aliens and any jurisdiction that ignored or otherwise failed to honor any detainers with respect to such aliens.
(c)  The Director of the Office of Management and Budget is directed to obtain and provide relevant and responsive information on all Federal grant money that currently is received by any sanctuary jurisdiction.
