The first motorcade was pretty much expected,
since Lester Taylor had been advertising it on his Facebook page
for a week. I hope they had city permits for this, but if so, it
did not excuse the reckless driving exceeding the 25 MPH
residential speed limit as I observed when they came down Sanford
Street. Riding in the back of an open convertible, was council
person Ted Green.
That's generally not considered
prudent or safe driving, but then, I don't have the protection of
the Democratic machine that is behind the Line A
"Team."
Shortly afterwards, council
person Alicia Holman came riding along in much the same way. This
is blurry because by then we had switched to video to see if we
could determine the speed of the vehicles on our residential
street.
With much tooting of horns and
waving from windows, the motorcade sped on down the street,
impressing every 12 year-old and under who saw them, but I don't
think anyone of voting age was much impressed. We'll find out
Tuesday.
Not to be outdone, this was
followed by a second motorcade from Line C, Carol Clark's Camp
and her followers. They traveled at an even faster rate of speed,
but surprisingly, not a police car was in pursuit that I could
see. Carol Clark herself was riding sitting upright on the trunk
of an open convertible, much like Ted Green in the above photo.
She was laughing and waving, but she had a tight grip on the seat
because of the speed. We only managed to get a photo of a few of
the cars following after her because we were not expecting this
second motorcade, since it was unannounced.
I don't know which camp won the
race through the city, but I am glad that the other candidates
had the good sense not to get involved in this childish disregard
for public safety. We will find out if such political shenanigans
work on the voters on June 4th.
Thanks to Lester Taylor for
posting the below photo of himself on his public Facebook page.
Now we know who sets the example for his "team."
